REAL ID Act rejection being attacked

My Way News - New ID Rules May Complicate Air Travel
WASHINGTON (AP) - Millions of air travelers may find going through airport security much more complicated this spring, as the Bush administration heads toward a showdown with state governments over post-Sept. 11 rules for new driver’s licenses.

As Maine was one of the first states to pass legislation preventing the state from introducing the required REAL ID standards it makes on wonder if the federal government is really ready to allow closure of the airports in the seventeen or so states having passed similar laws.

Bangor, Maine’s airport serves as the point for cross-Atlantic flights for emergency landings due to problem passengers, in-air emergencies, and other issues and the adjoining Air National Guard base houses one of the more significant air refuelling wings in the country.  I hope Maine stands by its laws and the wishes of its citizens and shows the federal government that it can not force states to do as it says unless the Constitution specifically grants it such powers.
